Today in History

Some folks want to do away with Columbus day because he opened the New World for the abuse of the masses......

I see no reason to celebrate this day, he as not even the first European, and found it by accident.

I saw a show on TV not too long about him and what he did in his 4 voyages. They said there was a tribe of people in the Caribbean consisting of about 250,000 people. They welcomed him with open arms. When he returned he had soldiers with him and he demanded their gold, but they didn't have any and didn't even know what it was. Columbus and his gang slaughtered them down to fewer than 200 people. He never accomplished anything else in his life.

They said that Columbus wasn't even heard of in history until Italian immigrants were being treated like the Mexicans are now by some,so they started celebrating Columbus as the person who discovered America to give themselves credibility as Americans, and it caught on.

Yep seems pretty accurate to me ! I celebrated by going to work ! Lots of crazy days are celebrated !

I don't know the factual history of Columbus but I have read lately that the stories of his slaughtering of all of those people is not at all accurate. We can't even get straight what happens a day or two ago, let along 500 years or so how are we to know.

People today know very little of real past history.
All they know is what some have decided to teach in school.

Example....
If I ask how big was Louisiana originally.
99% would say this

When in truth that is just the section the USA bought from France with cash money.

Originally Louisiana was everything in green
