Single Wheel Tractors, Question...

I just bought a 1946 Farmall H with a Single front wheel.

Option one is a 7.50x10 front tire / wheel. A squatty, "flotation" style tire. I have a parts tractor H with this, and a JD 40T as well.

Option two is a 6.50x16 front tire / wheel. I personally like this look better, and that's what this new H is.

I have seen them both ways before, and was just wondering what the preference was, or what the reason was for the difference?

You will find that the 7.50 x 10 probably has a heavier weight rating and a stiffer sidewall needed for a single front wheel.

Hello Bryce, have tractors down here both ways and have a couple observations. Cast 10 inch weighs more than the stamped steel 16 inch. The 16 will steer easier. Farmalls with oversized rear tires look better and set level with the 16 front wheel. Where are the pictures?

You had the two sizes because of the size of the furrow the wheel followed and what implement would have been mounted on the front. It had nothing to do with looks

I've had both and if the tractors doesn't sit up too much in the front I'd go with the 16" as the larger diameter tire goes over things like rocks better and steers
easier.

Bryce, from the way you wrote it I was thinking single wheel garden tractor, a garden tractor you walked behind but could cultivate between garden rows 12" apart. But they were hard to handle as you had to keep them from laying over on the side with the handle bars. Traded it on a 2 wheel walking tractor back in the 50's, had it untill 79 when had to be sold at auction after Grandma passed on. Some of those single wheel tractors had only a 8" tire for traction, others had a 12" same as the 2 wheel tractor had. Did not think single FRONT WHEEL FARM TRACTOR.
