John Deere 332

I have a chance to purchase a small John Deere 332 Lawn Tractor with a 48" deck and a 3 cylinder Yanmar Diesel. What do I need to look for and is $900 a good price? That's what they're asking.

That is cheap if it is in good working order. They are guys looking for them. Many thing they are the toughest mower JD ever built. I disagree but that is another post. I sold one last year for $3250 that was in prefect shape. it only had 450 hours. There is an hour meter. You have to raise the hood to see it. Also the 50 inch deck is worth more and was the most common on them. If the deck is about 5-6 inches thick it is a 50 inch not a 48.

Make sure the motor is in good running order. They are usually bullet proof but if you do need to work on them it gets spendy fast. Check the hydro out as they can get loose and then cost a good penny to fix. The good thing is the hydro out of the later 316 and 318s is the same unit. So you usually can find good used ones.

B.I.L. has a 322, same but gas engine. Just purrs! Has held up very well for the 4+ acres he mows with a pretty good couple of hills. Thought he has the 54" deck on his. Built a fancy mounted sprayer that runs pump off the engine clutch. Done nothing with engine but change oil/filters/fluid...normal maintenance stuff. Check it over but $900. is a pretty good deal!

That sounds so cheap it could be a scam! As far as the Yanmar they seem to be very good. We have a JD4600 with over 1000 hours and no unscheduled maintenance, and I think it starts better than most.

Seen the same for sale north of Listowel a month ago for $3200. Looked mint and had 2-3 attachments .

I have one out side that just pulls the boat and pushes some dirt. It has earned its retirement! If someone offered $2500.00, I would have to be pretty hungry that day to let it go.

Steve if your BIL has a 54 inch deck on his I would like o see a picture of how he got it on there. The factory options where, 46,48,50 when new. Then there was an newer style 48 inch deck. O my knowledge there never was a 54 inch option unless he took the brackets off a 48 inch replacement deck and put them on the same style 54 inch deck.
