what a stupid idea to have a tractor up there without proper engineering and safety in place. lucky it fell inside but then who knows could have been in there also. could have been kids playing around that building too.

I went by there a couple months ago. Was featured in Farm Show News second last issue. I think I took a wrong turn or two to end up going past there!

Saw that yesterday on the other site.

It was up there for 25 years, lot of replies said it was a neat landmark. Guess I wouldn't beat up the owners, it was a grandma and grandson if I remember right, he had a neat story and it was there for 25 years, not like it was too weak and fell the first week it was up there......

Too bad it happened, but sure a lot neater than the thousands that already have gone to China on a boat........

I'm guessing they (mistakenly) thought it was worth nothing more
than yard art before they put it up there, so not much lost to them.
Other than the cost of getting it out of there and cleaning up the mess.
Looks like an hour or two with a hydra-hoe would bury the whole
thing, silo and all without disturbing too much.
Don't get me wrong, its beautiful looking property, I just don't
believe either was being used so it might as well come down.

There is a JD up on a silo near Bat Cave NC.
Have not been through there in many years, so it may be gone also.

I had seen those silos with the concrete roof for the first time on a trip through WI. two years ago. Never have seen any like that here in Ontario. Sure were built to last , that is unless you make a habit of parking your tractor on the roof.

Fawcett Tractor Supply in St.Marys Ontario used to have a Massey Ferguson on top of a tall silo. I have not been there for 25 years or so. I kind of doubt it would still be there today.
I just checked Google maps and it appears the place is a lot bigger now and the silo is gone.

My grandfather's brothers had a set of forms to build silos like that. They built several around the neighborhood. They used either a flat concrete roof, or a much more complex arched concrete roof. The arched roof was also used on some milk houses they built with the same forms. The sad part is, nobody is left that did the work, and all we have is a few pictures. I would have likedto know how they formed the roof, especially up in the air 40 feet!

As for the G, it looks like there are a few salvagable parts there, but getting them out of the silo could be a challenge!

It's too bad it fell, but nothing lasts forever without maintenance. The paint on the tractor still looks pretty fair for being out in the weather since 1993. Do you think one paint job lasted that long or did someone repaint it while it was on top of the silo?

I've been by it several times, Yup it was a bit east of Momence IL. I thought it was on the IN side of the line. Sure is not much from Momence to the line.

Some people know better than putting a tractor on top of a concrete silo. It doesn't bother me any. If they had kept it on the ground where it belongs it wouldn't have happened.

We had work at the NUCOR steel mill in Kankakee(actually Bourbonnais) about 10 years ago and best route between here and there took me by that place. One trip by the fellow happened to be sitting out front of the garage in a lawn chair so I stopped and had a real interesting chat with him. Very nice and knowledgeable man, dangerous or stupid?,,, he was not.
