1946 b won't run

I recently purchased a 1946 JD B which ran fine until I ran out of gas and refilled the tank with a 10% ethanol blend. It would hardly start then when it did it would only idle and sputter then die. I checked the sediment bowl, fuel lines and filter and all were working as they should. Could it be the fuel?

Without starting a war, I'm going to say probably not a fuel type issue. I run 10% all the time and no issues. My guess, some sediment/rust got knocked loose and is blocking a passage way in the carb or the needle isn't opening all the way, though I'm leaning towards debris.

Two cylinders run fine on E10. They were made to run on "anything that could be poured in the tank." Flammable, of course!

As below, you probably have some crud lodged somewhere.

Does it have a coil and did you forget to turn the switch off when you left?
BTDT
Coils may overheat if left on, if the points happen to be closed.
A Magneto won't have this prob.

1946 B what. IH or JD or A/C??? Can make a difference as to what the fix could be. Filter as in in line?? If in line throw it as far away from the tractor as you can it is likely to be clogged up. That said pull the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes. If you do not have that work your way back to where you loose the flow. I would also check that you have a good spark at all the plug wires. You need a blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. Spark problem can act like a fuel problem because a weak spark will not have it run well if at all

We used "[i:654c4848f0]10% ethanol blend[/i:654c4848f0]" for many years in our 2 cylinder tractors with no issues.

You might consider checking inside the fuel tank.

Take a look at the photo below of the wooden debris we found in the tank of our 43B.

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]Fuel System[/b:654c4848f0] diagram below.

Note the shut off valve (Key 39).

You might consider checking the type of the shut off valve on your 46B.

Take a look at the photo below of the shut off valve on our 43B.

If the shut of valve is positioned [b:654c4848f0]horizontal[/b:654c4848f0] as displayed above, then the gas is turned [b:654c4848f0]OFF[/b:654c4848f0].

If the shut of valve is positioned [b:654c4848f0]vertical[/b:654c4848f0], then the gas is turned [b:654c4848f0]ON[/b:654c4848f0].

Hope this helps.

Hey young fella old, with all of your years of trouble shooting, think how much more help you could be if you read the posts before responding, LOL.

Cody, You ay that all of the fuel system components are working as they should, but we don't know what that means to you. As Old said to us it means filling a pint in 3 minutes. Is yours?

I had never heard that before. The gas flow out of the filter
was not slow by any means, but I did not check the carb. I will
do that tonight.

It is an in line filter, I checked the flow coming outo and it was flowing quite fast. But I did not check the carb and will try it tonight, along with the spark plugs.

Checked the carb and it doesn't seem to be plugged. So, it's getting fuel from the tank all the way to the carb. Also checked and cleaned spark plugs along with battery posts and new cable ends. What else it there to try?

Would you be willing to share what "does not seem to be plugged" means?
