Does anyone know how to fix a problem with the tractor dies when you step in the clutch or when you push the power shift lever to reverse HELP

First guess you have a pilot spool in the power shift control valve sticking. C1 clutch not releasing and causing a lockup when C4 engages on pedal down. Dirty hydraulic fluid will cause this. If want to troubleshoot and fix it yourself, first thing with out a doubt you need the service manual. If you search the Case forum archive (below) you can finds lots of good info there. You may want to post this question there as well. There are many good power shift guys there.

OK shot a service manual but it doesn't give a very good picture of what is in side the spools or even how to get them apart

hmm cannot type very good I have got a service manual and thanks for answering hope you can help

It seems to me in the power shift troubleshooting section there is the same symptom as you have...I don't have my manual at the house right now. Check that, and if so, follow the recommendations. Again, search in the archives on this site under the Case forum. Go to search, then search archives, then narrow the search to Case forum. There are several posts about the trouble you describe and about cleaning the power shift control valve. Try searching "stuck pilot spool" etc.

ok well try don't want split it if I can help it hmmm partly i do not have the jacks and stands to do it safely

ok found the section but doest say are you supposed to crank the tractor and flush the spools when you have them out and is a good idea to do them all at once or one at a time any ideas pulled a couple of them out and wiped them off with a paper towel nice and shinny
