Terracing and Tiling?

I intermitted some land that had been in CRP, and some big ditches have developed, from 5 feet to 8 feet deep in a few places.

I think what I need is Terracing and Tiling. Anyone have any thoughts on doing this? Do I need both?

Is terracing still done, when tiling is done?

I probably can?t do it for a couple of years because of the cost. I would also like to ask:
What should I do to help minimize erosion in the meantime? Are there plants that would help some?

Thank you!

You need to start by talking this over with your NRCS division of your local FSA location. You may have areas designated as wetlands which if you drain could prevent future farm program payments. Also, you may have state or federal wetlands which can not be touched without penalty including fines.

Yep. In this day and age the gubbermint has many ways to watch what you do. I would not be surprise to see drones widely used in the near future.

Generally, terracing and tiling are done in combination. Terraces are shaped to slow the water flow, and to lead it somewhere...by having a tile inlet at the lowest point of the terrace, then leading it downhill to an outlet. There is USDA cost-sharing available thru the FSA/NRCS office. They are the permitting authority, and your DNR gets involved in some situations as well. You don"t want to try this on your own.
