well the latest on this mess i got the used setup to change from a magneto to a distributor, shipping company dropped it somewhere along the line and broke the Bakelite nipple off the cap, it was still in the box, got it installed and thought i had the engine timed right according to the service manual, nope, while cranking, it kicked back the wrong way and broke the starter, not just the drive, but the whole nose ,, it just never ends

Hate to hear you're having a rough time with it.
What model Allis is it? Do you have the manual?
Personally, I'd prefer to have the mag on there, but a
distributor will work as long as you're battery is charged.

new battery and ill make it charge, its a 1949 wd , the mag that was on it wasnt the right one, and was so old, no parts available, i got another mag but the drive is too short to couple with the engine, i went with the dist ignition so i didnt wind up with a collection of mags that didnt fit anything i have

Here's why I asked, I have a working starter I took out of my C.
The linkage wouldn't hook up to the C so I had to start it standing
beside the tractor. I finally found a good used one and replaced it.
I don't know if it will fit your tractor but YT's parts store says the
nose cone should be the same between them. I'll get some pictures of it
when I get home from work if you're interested. Email should be open.

The nose cone is not the same on all. I used to stock 4 different nose cones, WC, WD, CA, and B/C all took different ones. Also, the Bendix for the WC and WD has fewer teeth than the one for the B/C/CA.

Never had Allis but converted both Farmall and Deere to distributor to get rid of those mags that made hard starting. Distributor any time.

to re visit this, the dist system fit just fine, just not sure why the mag didnt, it was taken off a running allis tractor, or what on my tractor could have got changed,is the later mag drive shorter
? by the serial number its a 49, wd, its odd, almost started, but now the starter drive and nose gave up, it looks like it had been cracked a long time, now im going to make this run, its not going to win!
