1951 Farmall Cub. Total cost of restoration was listed at $2400 by this student. I'm not a red fan, but I really liked this tractor.

Sour apples, Gene

I don't know that much about Cubs so what is wrong with it for as it came from the factory? How about letting us know so we can judge for ourselves.

I don't doubt you a bit about how it came from the factory. But then....the factory probably put lead paint on the thing and you probably wouldn't do that today.
When I do a "restoration", or whatever it's called nowadays, I try to keep it original, but sometimes the factory made improvements since a tractor was built to make it better or safer. Let's see now, what was it with International Harvester tractors and bad gas caps........
Also, sometimes they get judges that have no business being a judge. I was a poultry superintendent on the county fair level for over 15 years and about half the time the poultry judge had no business being a judge whatsoever. One "judge" told me that she was a 4H member for 10 years, so that made her an expert at judging poultry.
Hopefully, the kid who got this tractor into the shape that it is in today at least learned something about his project, even if this tractor is a mutt instead of a purebred.

I don't think that is factory muffler but is there anything else. He said in one of the other posts that there were a total of 5 tractors so just through process of elimination he may have won 3rd. Not knowing what the final 2 looked like we cannot say he/she doesn't deserve 3rd.

Besides the rear rims and muffler are not the correct color, what is so wrong with it?

Doesn't bother me none, but to answer the question(s), rear rims should be silver, no seat cushion, black steering wheel, black muffler, wrong decals, and unpainted wiring and hoses,(At least the one).

Geez, guys, quit nit picking! Anyone of us would be proud to have restored that Tractor. Give the young person some credit! Ben

Hi, I agree with centash. Sometimes it's better to say something good or don't say anything! Ed Will Oliver BC

Don't blame the young FFA guys that did that tractor they must have an ag teacher that knows nothing about farm tractors.

I agree, lets not pile on the poor kid. Besides I doubt he/she gives a whoot what any of us think. gobble

Well, at least it has a red starter, and even though Gene has a record of being a little more negative and critical then most of us here, I bet that at any show most of us can't help looking for and identifying as many "errors" as we can on many of the tractors that we look at.

Who cares? It's now going to live on to see a few more days instead of ending up crushed.

Good job to this kid on what maybe his first of many restorations. That is unless the tractor police don't scare him off.

It's one thing to look for the mistakes. It's quite another to make a big deal out of pointing them out to everybody. I tend to notice those things also. But I keep them to myself unless I am asked.
The kid did a fine job, and has every right to be proud of that tractor. Let's not drive him away by nit picking him to death.

"Good job to this kid on what maybe his first of many restorations. That is unless the tractor police don't scare him off."

I've read stories where that exact thing has happened. That's why the correct police have such a bad reputation.

That kid did a fine job and did it the best way he knew how. He doesn't have the knowledge that some of us have as to what is "correct" or not. He's just as proud of that tractor as some of us are, and he has every right to be. If you want to drive him back out of the hobby just keep piling on him!

At least the kid was doing something good with his time compared to what other kids that age are doing. Looks good to me, and I also hope the Tractor Police doesn't scare him off from doing more.

How can you see some of those things? I cannot see those details. And I have always hated those silver rims, I would have painted then as should have been when new and that is red. Other details I cannot see anything to complain about. The workmanship is what counts.
