Evening guys!

So, for some projects I have planned over the next ~5 years (ill spare you the details) I've decided that I'll likely need a backhoe. So, Ive been looking around for a project machine to work on here and there as I'm able.

And I found this one! Its a model 200 Massey with aforementioned backhoe and loader (see pic). I'm told it has a GAS engine that should run, something about dirt in the carb I think the guy said. He wants $3500 for it as is. It seems like it might be a little steep to me, but I'm no an expert on backhoes.

Questions:
1) Are parts easily available for a model 200 with Gas Engine?
2) Is there anything I should know about this model, or similar models?
3) What would you guess a machine like this might be worth? I'm in Texas if it makes any difference.

Thanks in advance everyone!

That is either a 202, or 204 Massey Ferguson workbull since it has a gas engine. The tractor is based on the MF 35 tractor so most of the parts are easy to come by. I bought a similar tractor without a loader/backhoe that didn't run for $1500. The front end loader alone if its in good shape that's used will usually go what he's asking for the whole thing. Need to more close up pictures of it to look at, but its a cheap way to get a TLB. I paid $1400 for this one, I'll probably have about another $3000 + in it when its all done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR3rKu_Y05Y

Lanse Please Please look some more.. That thing is just so old once you spend and work you still will not have anything. The swing on that hoe is a cylinder affair that is notorious for going out. As someone down below posted ad another 2 thousand and find an older 580 or so. Parts ever where and at least you will have something when you get it going. Just my 72 years experience and I know this is an old board and a bunch of folks are going to encourage you to GO FO IT>

For what you want to do you might as well buy a backhoe for the new Kubota or the old zetor without a cab for easy access if you are looking at old junk like that Massey. My buddy got a lot newer MF 50 type than that. He paid $3500 for it, by the time he replaced hoses, a couple of rams were bad inside he had to have new rams made for and some seals. He's got over $7500 in it, It leaks oil from the drive line and still don't charge right, but he's using it. He figured he was going to be in it at less than 5000 to dig his basement and do his work on his acerage, and dig some holes where he works on a farm for extra money.

My JCB cost me $5500 from an auction, I've got $7000 + in that knowing it needed some spending but still have a good strong machine. I have replaced hoses some seal kits and A lot of hyd oil and stuff. Both these machines are diesel so they are pretty economical to run as well compared to a gas.

if you follow guys advice on the Case machine either go old enough it has a manual type forward reverse trans or newer than a 580B. when I was looking at "cheap" 580's some of the "Shuttle" transmissions like that B model are getting hard to find parts for and aren't easy/ cheap to work on either.

A old CASE 580B might as well be a old Zetor. Getting a FEL on the cheap takes some looking around, and some good mechanical abilities. My $1400 1971 Ford 4500 TLB won't cost me much too much money get going since all I need really need are parts. I can make/machine any parts that are not available, or super expensive myself. Put away some money while you are looking around. If I could afford a much newer machine I'd get a CAT 416B, or 416C.

I paid $5,000 for this '61 Dexta (3 cyl Perkins diesel) with a Parker backhoe and IH blade.

I think the Dexta is similar to a MF 35 as I've noted many parts are interchangeable. No major surprises so far. I replace the brake shoes/springs and did oil and filter PM. Found the "fluid" in the transmission to be questionable and still have to change out the rear differential oil and the PTO driven hydraulic fluid for the backhoe. Needs a new engine stop cable (so I don't have to carry pliers) and some work on the electrical (lights & horn don't work).

I'm in western Washington. I'd expect equipment to be more available in Texas which should at least give you more options if not cheaper prices.

I have a 202 like that one with loader and backhoe. I can't say it's a bad machine but I can say that I've put more money into it than it's worth just to keep it functional and it still leaves a lot to be desired.
If I knew then what I know now, I would have spent a bit more on something newer. There are some parts available for it and some not so I sometimes find myself having to get pretty creative!

There is lots of options in Texas as far as equipment goes, but the prices are not cheap. If you want to buy a TLB here in Texas that you can buy, and put to work right off the trailer without having to do any work on it you better have a budget of 10k or better to get one (unless you have time to hunt for a deal).
