O.T. Dog bit

by copperhead. Wife and I were out in the screened porch working on a project when we heard the dog yelp. Noticed she was carrying her left hind leg and acting funny. We thought something had bit her and looked the area over but found nothing. A little while later noticed one of the cats acting peculiar and she was baiting a copperhead by the steps from the carport into the house. I got a shovel and dispatched it (the snake). Took the dog to the vet and he gave her an antibiotic and a couple pills to take every day for a few days.

Wife and I had made at least a dozen trips up and down the steps in the hour before she got bit.

Dog and I had spent the last two long days working on fence in the woods, and had not noticed a single snake. Guess I should have looked closer to the house.

friend of mine turns those hides into belt coverings. Makes an impressive piece.

In northwest Missouri?

I?ve had two close encounters with copperheads in recent years. One of those could have been unpleasant because the snake was exactly arm?s length from my face. Fortunately, they don?t seem to be the least bit aggressive. On the other hand, though, they stand their ground and seem to be without fear.

I always wear boots and keep the snake gaiters handy for tromping around in rough, rocky areas.

Poochie got a sore leg but you seem to indicate a complete recovery is in order.
