IH 340 transmission

I have a forklift that I believe to be based on an IH 340 tractor. The local IH dealer says that according to the casting numbers on the engine block it is a 340 tractor. The transmission is shot. I would like to find a complete transmission/rear axle assembly to make it useable again. What model tractors could possibly be donors for this project? Anybody have one or know of a good place to check. I'm in Michigan but am willing to travel to get one. I posted on the IH board first but did not get any response so I thought I would try here.

How about a 460U rear end? I have one of those, not sure if it's the same or not...

fwiw, be aware that 340 and 504 farm tractors have VERY slow reverses. perhaps a forklift might have different gearing? a 460 probably has different gearing- i haven't driven a 460. i have no idea what rear end will bolt up to your forklift, but i can almost watch my fingernails growing while i'm backing those 2 up. it would be a shame to go to all the work and end up with something unsatisfactory. hth

Unless it is a reversed type. Then you would have 4 speeds in reverse, and 1 speed forward.
