I've Been Vandalized!

I was SHOCKED when I showed up at the field the other morning, that someone cut a bunch of wires on my tractor?? Just literally every wire on it, they cut in half. Nothing else was done. It was my SuperM with the AllCrop 60 Combine, and they couldn't been seen from the road? Would have to have known they were there I guess? I was about half way done with the field, and stopped for the night, came back 3 days later and that had happened?

Bunch of BS, and it took me a good part of the day just to get everything back going again. I guess nothing is safe anymore?!

Too bad we have people who do that stuff. It leaves you feeling very violated. And you lost a day getting things back together.

I think vandals are the lowest form of crook at least a thief is going to sell or use item, a vandal does no one any good not even himself, makes no sense.

I hate a vandal worse than a thief, at least I can see what they were getting out of it. Just an other similar story, I had a trailer that I was using to haul hay, I left it several miles from the nearest road. The next morning I went to get it and the wires were cut on it very similar to what you described. I never did figure what happened but it had to be some critter. It was at least 5 miles to the nearest building and 3 miles to the nearest county road. I didn't find any teeth marks on the wire and the ground was too hard for animal tracks.

That is why when I don't have a neighbor I know well next to a field I bring the equipment home that night whether that is inconvenient or not. And it is often the people you know and claim to be your friend that do it. Why? Jealousy?

Unfortunately in my case, (maybe luckily?) it's the neighbor that I do know. When we work the fields around him, we try to get in and get out in one day. Otherwise, everything comes home each night. Can't trust him, everybody knows it.

Sorry to hear of it. Lay low,and feed em some more bait, figure some way to ID em. It's not all that difficult to do these days.

In the event you have to do the same again, and can park it closer to the woods, I would aim a trail cam at it. If it were me, I would probably leave it there again, just to get pictures of the vandals. Idiots will be back when they see you fixed it so fast.
Trail cams have come a long way. The ones I have now have black flash technology. In the pitch dark I can walk past my camera and absolutely nothing is visible, yet my picture has been taken and it's very clear. They are also more affordable than they used to be. Nothing like being able to show the police a picture of the vandals.

Quite true and I have been lucky in that knowing a neighbor has nearly always lead to a basis of trust. There was a guy that lived next to a field that I no longer work and we got started off on the wrong foot and it only went downhill from there. The guy dumped trash from his mobile home remodel into the field and had the nerve to blame his neighbor who I knew and knew that was NOT doing any remodel work at the time. And there is a guy in the community who pretends to be my friend to my face but has been heard to trash me or my family when he is drunk. I just don't put my back to him to give him the chance to hurt me. I am sorry he had a hard time of it growing up and that his dad could not get his act together but I never called him out or his family on their problems.

Our neighbor took in his tweaker nephew so he would at least have a place to sleep. Kid got wasted and decided to go in to town, so he stole the neighbors tractor for transportation. Not to hard to locate an 18 year old idiot on a tractor at 2 in the morning!

I call it impotence. People want to have power and so they need to do bad things to prove to themselves that you can not stop them from doing what they want to do. Unfortunately, their actions are not of any value.

Kind of an odd act for random vandalism, more likely he pis*ed somebody off and it could be their way of payback.

We never leave equipment set where it is not by an occupied house. IF bare ground we take it some where safe to set. The boys anymore will take turns running all night if they can, to prevent damage. We have had combine windows broken, fuel taken, batteries stolen, you name it and they have done it over the years.

I would bet that it is someone you know. They are jealous of you having some thing they do not. I would keep an eye on your gas tanks and such. Your older gas tractors can be a target for sugar.

Sure it was vandals? Chipmunks can cut wires off and look like it was done with side cutters. I repair way to many cars this time of year with damaged wiring to be vandalism. One cars with lots of wiring to choose from, they will even pick out colors of wire to eat, depending on the make. They like solid color red, pink, and purple on GM, white on Fords.

I've got a pretty good idea who did it, and I should have know better to be honest.

Some of our lovely neighbors call the sherrif every time I drive past their place with a tractor. They live in a small housing community thing, and are like RIGHT on the county road. Of course there is nothing the sheriff is going to do, it is perfectly legal! But, they see it as a "disturbance".

Everything will be brought home safe and sound from now on. Just not worth the risk. Could have been a knife to a rear tire!

"Unfortunately, their actions are not of any value."

Actually, I think it is fortunate that their actions have no value.
If it makes them feel like a bigger person somehow, then fine.
Water off a duck's back to me. Until I catch them.

Sounds like you need a 2banger JD open exhaust and drive by real slow. They might like your SM a lot better.

I did something similar for a neighbor that complained about being noisy working my field next to him. Shut him up for a while.

I put a straight chrome pipe on my 400 cu in, JD 6 banger that made quite a noise. Was my parade queen, full of flags and all besides it's normal chores. Even with the "Sound Guard" cab I still had to wear ear muffs when working it hard.

I agree that cut wires and no other damage is odd for random vandalism. Flat tires, fuel and battery missing, broken lights, dents or driven for a joy ride would be more common for random vandalism.

Are you sure the damage was not caused by rodents? A combine in an open field would attract every rodent for hundreds of yards. Three days and nights would give the dozens or hundreds of rodents enough time to explore and chew on every square inch.

This spring had a neighbor push snow into my ditch{his ditch was closer}. Called him up asked what he was going to do with that snow, his reply"going to let it melt, what do you want me to do with it? I told to move it to his side. He said ok. Needless to say he let it melt in my ditch. So,he is not neighborly.
