2000 Chevy service 4wd

My 2000 Chevy has the service 4wd light on. After visiting Youtube. I replaced the switch on the dash. Same deal. Just replaced my Transfer case motor. Still has the "service 4wd" light on the dash. Cleaned my grounds, can't find any broken wires. Fuse is good Now what to do? Thanks...
 
OBDII scanner/reader has nothing to do with the 4x4 switch light on the dash. Have you tried to see if it will actually lock into 4wd? If it won't engage, it is possible you got a bad switch. I've replaced a couple switches that customers brought from autozone that were crap. If the switch light is flashing, I'd look at the motor assembly and the lever inside the case for freedom of movement.
 
I just went and checked my switch. The buttons light up, but the small indicator lights don't light up. i will get a different switch on Tuesday.
 
There's a 4x4 module that has failed.

You might want to find out what the code is in it. Throwing parts is no way to fix something. The GM electric shift is very reliable, other that the switch on the dash. You have already spent more than any shop diag charge would have been. Only thing I can add is check the fuses, there are two.
 
Add the possibility of a bad ignition switch to the list of possible causes. There's several separate circuits the get switched "on" in "RUN", and some time ago I dealt with an issue similar to yours. There's more than one power feed to the 4WD system, and if one is missing, it doesn't work and sets the light.
 
I have a 01 2500hd the service 4wd light came on a while back. My son checked for codes and nothing showed up. Hardly ever use 4wd, just engage it once in a while. It comes on sporadically, have never had a problem.
