Going to look at a Bushhog. Guy mentioned that he had a woods finish mower needs spindles and belt. 100 bucks. Good deal? No good. Thanks. I've seen it. Not looked at it. Know what I mean? Thanks

Kevin, sounds like all you're getting is a shell, Woods parts aren't cheap any more, sounds like it wasn't cared for anyway

if you need a brush hog, a finish mower isnt the thing to buy, those are for grass that is kept nice, a brush hog is for rough stuff, if you have say a 30 hp tractor, a brush hog will cut most anything you can push over with the tractor, [ its noisy too!] i paid 100 bucks for a used rino that needed blades 6 years ago, im still using it today keep searching

$100 but the belt is likely to cost you another $100 then each bearing 2 per is going to set you back $25 or so each so by the time you have it working you will be in it for $300 plus

The finish mower is scrap value if the spindles are bad. If just the bearings are noisy the repair cost won't be too bad but if the bearings spun on the shaft or in the housing you are looking at too much expense to fix it up right. The previous owner obviously didn't know how to use a grease gun. The belt can be expensive to very expensive depending on what version it is.

If all you have is $300 in it total, and the rest of it isn't in bad shape that isn't a bad deal. Go price a new one for comparison, or for that matter, a functioning used one and make your choice. The 5' one I bought retails for close to $2,000. I bought it at a consignment auction for a lot less than that however. I mow my pastures with it and sometimes have some gnarly weeds in there that it handles pretty well.

Well...it isn't covered in old grease, there doesn't seem to be any old grease anywhere on it. I would turn every bearing to see how rough they are, they may all need to be replaced as soon as you start using it, if not now. That machine looks like it is 40 years old, even if it may be newer it looks old and worn. Only buy it if you want a new project to rebuild it.
