JD 6620 combine - cab lever raises head, auto won't

Been trouble shooting my John Deere 6620 combine Dial-a-matic header control. When using a jumper wire on the round pin electrical connector at the combine throat the throat will raise without the header attached. Put the John Deere 220 platform on and then jump it the hydraulic system will not raise. It tries some, flexing the floating head some, but it will not lift it. When I use the hydraulic lever in the cab it will raise right up. Does the hydraulic lever in the cab work on a open system and the auto header control maybe work on a closed system with a relief valve???? Maybe the closed system of the auto header has a weak pressure relief valve?????? Hydraulic system would get hot off and on when doing soybeans last year. Slowly getting this narrowed down. Thanks for your ideas.

If the lever that moves the unloading auger sticks..the hydraulic oil will heat-up quickly...must be in neutral or all main hyd. functions will suffer

I think I read that the unloading auger swing hydraulic system feeds the dial-a-matic header height control system. Yes, the auger moves in and out properly, but that wouldn't take too much pressure. I think my next step is to check the pressure relief valves.

The chain under the cab is hooked to the switch ? Also there is a rate of drop and raise speed valve there has any thing got changed on that ?

Switch under cab activated by the chain works. Dial-a-matic lifts the combine throat when I use a jumper wire on the round connector - no head attached. Attach the Deere 220 head and it will not lift the weight when using the jumper wire activating the solenoids. Hand lever in the cab will easily lift the head.

Do you have the motor at full throttle when your trying to see if the automatic header is working???? Most of them will not lift at lower engine speeds. Also the entire hydraulic system on a JD 6620 combine is an open center system. The main pump has two sections one is for the steering only and the larger section is for the other hydraulic functions.

I would still think you do not have the automatic system adjusted/set correctly. There is the rate of drop valve, there also is a flow adjustment to set how fast it raises. The automatic system tees into the manual lift system. The hydraulic oil is supplied from the same pump/system. IF the auger swing valve does not return to center the automatic header will not work as it feeds after the auger swing valve does.

No, I didn't have the engine wide open. Probably about 1/2 way wide open. I will try it wide open today. The manual lift lever works at idle. So, there must be a difference between the DAM auto header control and the manual lift lever as related to rpm necessary to lift the header?????? Thanks JD Seller.
