So whats the skinny on a CaseIH 485? It seems the state and county highway departments use them by the boatloads.
I assume it would have a CDC engine? Any weaknesses? The tractor in question is low houred but is going on 30 years old.
I hope parts are not an issue yet.

Pretty sure they are a IH carry over, like a 2400 series in the industrial line if I am thinking right,, I have worked on a few of them not impressed myself, did not like the shifters or how they were made, here are some for sale for you to compare

They are an international tractor. Had an IH 484 which was the previous model on the farm when I was young. It was a good tractor. Transmission shifting a little clunky but the engine had lots of torque. I would not be scared of one.

Thomas, one of those listings said it had a 3 cylinder diesel.
Can I safely assume they all were 3 cylinder jobs and it's not a CDC engine?

We had a fleet of 385's, and 485's that did ground maint. on a 1200 ac. complex. I personally have had a 585.....these are super tuff tractors that will run and work for many hrs. The shifter setup is the only weak spot, engines are great. They are heavy built and ride nice.

We have a 585 dad and grandpa bought new. Good tractor, low hours on it, (less than 2500) and a 2250 case ih loader. the loader is to much for the tractor really, but it is a handy tractor especially when you take the loader off of it.
