OT: 1971 Ford F-600 hydrovac parts

I lost power assist on my old grain truck this summer hauling wheat. I took the hyrovac off this
week and took the cover off and discovered two tears near the outer edge of the 12" diaphragm. My
NAPA store said they won't sell parts, just exchange the core for a rebuilt unit. That is around
$125 they said. Does anyone know if just the diaphragm can be purchased?

Never tried to get parts for one.

But if it is the original, or old enough for the diaphragm to fail, my thoughts are the rest can't be far behind.

If you end up replacing it, be a good idea to replace the master cylinder too. Or at least flush it with clean fluid before connecting it to the reconditioned unit.

I've never seen a source for the diaphragms, I doubt there is one.
I've just always replaced the whole hydrovac units and be thankful that you still found a source for them.
Some of those units have a little valve that goes between the hydrovac unit and the intake manifold that stops the gas vapors from getting to the diaphragm. If yours has one, replace it.

Thanks for the tip on the check valve. I've done some reading on the web and replacing the check valve has been mentioned by others.

At almost 60 YOA, I can remember when Hydrovac rebuild kits were readily available, and I installed a dozen or two.

But that was a LLLLOOONNGGG time ago. Whether for liability reasons, or simply low demand, that era has passed. Pay the piper for a re-man, or do without. SADLY, that's your two choices, at this point.

Just a bit of logic here...
If a remanufactured one is available as an exchange unit, it is a sure thing that _somebody_ must be rebuilding or repairing them. They can't do that without parts. The parts may not be readily available to the public, but they must exist somewhere.
