H John Deere fluids

Picked up a nice little H John Deere, changing fluids, oil and transmission.
Curious, how much of what needs to be in the top where I am supposing the hydraulic pump would attach if I had one?
There is a large cap that goes into this area, and it looks like a small plug that might be to check the level of fluid.
Would like some advice on how to proceed.
Thanks..

That cap is where you can pour in the engine oil instead of removing the breather from the valve cover and pouring it in there. Should be a petcock on the side of the main case where the oil is full when it runs out. Might be on the flywheel side I can't remember for sure ?

Deere was sporting enough to post a free parts book on the corporate web site. Handy indeed .
Operator's manuals can be found on eBay, at Sharps or at 1-800-522-7448. Green Magazine has a publication on the lettered tractors which explains many mysteries and history covered no where else .

The oil pump is to feed it up into there. Though they usually don't get a lot of it up in there.
