I have a 1974 David Brown 990 and was wondering if anyone could give info on a total restoration. The sheet metal is in good condition but engine will have to be rebuilt. The transmission is good but it does have a problem with the lift. All components for the power steering will have to be replaced. Fuel pump and injectors seem to be ok. radiator and any hydraulic lines and anything else you can think of will probably need replacing HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! Also does anyone live in georgia that i might could get with to discuss what to do with this project

Yes it needs about everything but i can do most of the work myself. I was trying to get an idea as to cost for this project.

Clutches are around a grand for those, engine kits $600 or $700,power steering stuff if you find it new will be pricey.Generally I figure up my time and estimated cost for parts
then 2X the time and 3X the parts and it'll come close to a realistic figure.

Thanks for the info. I have started pricing things and it looks like it could run from around 3500 to maybe 5000 or possibly more. I am trying to figure if it would be easier to find one restored and keep this one for parts as i have not started taking this one apart yet.

That tractor must have huge sentimental value. I had a 1974 885, and while it was a good tractor, economical to run, I can't imagine being moved to restore one. You can't expect more than $.40 on your dollar return and nothing for your time, when it is time to sell. I think that I can get $5.00/hour for this one.

That's what I do find a good runner and then buy a couple of parts machines cheap to pick parts off,no reason not to do it in reverse order.I have a 780 David Brown I've raked hay with for the last 15 or so years, picked up another one couple years ago with engine problems for $600 sold the wheels and tires off it for $500 so I have a cheap parts machine now.

Buying one running sounds more like what i need to do. I just hate to look out and see this one just sitting there. I am retired and just need something to keep me busy. I also have a few acres that i need to keep mowed as well as some that needs cleaning. I recon that old tractor and i have something in common. I don,t want to just sit and rust away.
