Repaired Bush Hog

I finally got around to fixing our brush cutter, I was having problems with the blade holder pan striking stumps or rocks and bending up against the underframe, then I would have to straighten it with a pipe wrench before continuing. I got it all apart fairly easy and pounded it back into shape, then welded gussets into the top of the pan. Then I checked it for balance and it was off a little, so I drilled and extra hole to correct that. I have the slip clutch set a little on the loose side now, maybe that along with the gussets will prevent further damage. I am very disappointed with Bush Hog for selling a cutter with an oval blade holder pan. The cheap King Kutter that we had before was better designed!

I would guess that it is not meant for cutting more than grass and weeds not to take out in the woods and cut down saplings since that looks to be the same as the drum to a disc mower.

The brochure says it is designed to cut brush up to 2 inches, and it's not the brush that damaged it, its the occasional rock or stump that I hit while cutting grass and weeds.

Let a little creativity in. Can't you take one of those really big disks from a disk harrow and modify it to protect everything? Act as a really big guard assembly.

Nice repair. I agree those stump jumpers are not too impressive. I had one on a scrap yard save. Ended up just taking it off. Too mangled and too many cracks to save.

The light duty model bushhogs have an oval pan.The heavier duty models have a round pan/stump jumper.Heavier metal all the way around. But I have seen those tore up too!Mark
