IH 424 Hydraulics

I have a IH 424 gas (no loader, no PS) that I was able to get running after sitting for 2 years. Ill stop here and note that I am not a mechanic so this was a victory in itself. One problem that we noticed was there was approximately 2 gallons of fluid removed when we changed the oil. Next we noticed that there was almost no hydraulic fluid when we went to change it. One problem this tractor had up to the time it was parked two years ago was it would stop lifting any implements after it got to operating temp. Now if lifted it will hold the implement once up. I am having difficulty imagining how the Hydraulic fluid is getting mixed with the engine oil.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have never worked on the gas model only the Diesel version but I believe the hydraulic pump is on the right front of engine run by the timing gears. Most likely the front drive shaft seal on the hydraulic pump is leaking hydraulic oil into the crankcase. Seals can be replaced but if shaft is worn then shaft will require a sleeve and new seals. You could search the web for a replacement.
