Ductile iron

I have a Case 480F LL that has the front axle housing worn out. The dairy that owns it said the left front wheel was loose. It is a 4x4 carraro front axle. Were the bottom race drives in, the race has broken up and is gone. Thinking about just welding up the egged out part and fitting a new race in there. It would take a lot of welding to get it round again. Axle housing is no NLA from Case. Anyone have any thoughts? Have not been able to find a used one.

Instead of welding, if there is enough meat there, bore it out and press in a bushing, bore the bushing to the bearing size.

That is actually kind of common on a Carraro axle that is neglected. I used to see that, and they used to weld them up a little, and then machine them back out to accept the races.

Post a pic of what your dealing with so we have a better idea what's going on. But welding it up should be fine.

Yes, I talked to one supplier that said he use to have a them bored and bushed. But the guy that did it retired. This axle does not say ductile iron. But I think the latter ones do. I may just try and weld it up. Axle is no good anyway!
