When Jeff seeded that old swampy pasture, Marc had out 12 foot field cultivator hooked unto the S-88. So just for giggles he tried working over the plowed ground. Forth gear was a bit too much for the first time over and without the tires loaded, third gear was mostly wheel spin. It was an interesting exorcise at the very least. Told Marc that if I do junk the 1955, he might just as well pump fluid out of the tires and put some of it in the S-88.

I would opt for a new pair of radial rears. Yes, I know that they are not cheap. We don't do much plowing anymore but the IH 986 does not miss the fluid with radial drive tires.

not impressed with radials pulling power. I got a 60 John Deere /w 13.6 rears on it.The radial tire is loaded, the bias ply is just air anytime I'm pulling anything hard the radial always spinsout, the bias never slips.Same thing at the tractor pulls,we have been in.The radial always gives up.

A 88-super88 can't pull much without ballast. My 88 without ballast would scratch gravel when I cracked the throttle open in fifth. Pulling a plow without ballast was a futile effort. Now with three weights per wheel it's respectable but still nothing to write home about. It does have 3 3/4" pistons but dynos at only 52 horses.
