Not much to watch on local TV on a Saturday morning. This morning I watched Machinery Pete TV. Never seen it before. If you google Machinery Pete you will find many links, some to U tube videos of auctions.
Thought I would share it with you. They even showed old farm tractors that people rebuilt. A true
Tractor Tales TV.

It is just another one of those reality shows where some self appointed expert tells us dumb farmers what stuff is worth. He has branched out to showing collections where some millionaire has spent more on a building to house his collection than my farm is worth. Just saying.

He's been around a long time... used to be just a database of auction prices; but has kind of morphed into the TV show and farm magazine columnist. Since the decline in commodity prices, he seems to be mostly interested in propping up used equipment prices to help dealers by showcasing some machine that brought a lot on auction. I suppose this does help farmers as well, as they can then think a little more highly of their own machinery investment :), even if the bank doesn't agree.

I used to think of him as an advocate for farmers, but lately he has been running ads for dealers- they show up in my inbox on Saturday mornings. I've lost respect with that addition.

He was actually on successful farming tv on rfd for years and branched out into his own show. He will show up at local auctions very often and seems to be a good source for price trends in farm machinery industry. If you see him at an auction talk to him he seems very descent guy.

coonie Minnie: Machinery Pete has a advertising web site that is kind of like Tractor House. It is much more affordable to advertise on. So individuals and smaller dealers/traders can afford to use it. He is cross promoting it within all his other goings on.

So he is still kind of on the farmer/smaller guys side. You can get on his site for around $150 a month and start advertising your stuff for sale. That is very reasonable. Tractor house is 5 times that for basic services.

So keep in mind Machinery Pete is promoting equipment. He tries to be positive about it. He also has a lot of data to back up his claims too. Part of his service is access to his data. You can go and look up what a certain model has been selling for. You can split it to auction or dealer sales. So you can get true sales data not just advertised prices.

So yes he is in our faces more but he has grow into another business besides just sales data.

Watch it weekly....very informative. Better to watch this than "Market to Market" and see how much grain prices have fallen!" Also there is an "Antique tractor auction" channel that I do not get....wish I did.

Seems like a nice enough guy......I find most of his data boring. Telling us what a IH1086 sold for in N.Dakota and I live in N.Carolina.

All this is good info to know....and I agree with you guys. What Im curious about is how "Coonie Minnie" got his name on here? Very interesting name...if I may ask?

I typed it in... :)

My home town has a nickname of Coonie (actually Oconomowoc- betcha can't pronounce that!), and at the time I joined here, I had just inherited half a dozen Minnie Mo U's, none running.

Real name is John. Thanks for asking.

I do buy access to his auction data, and it has been helpful. I've often wondered what auctioneers feed him data, and who does not. Seems like most around here do not show up in his listings.

Good to know his ads are affordable... just seems more commercial than the "just the facts" mantra they had before, though.

Connie: He actually has people at the sales writing down the results. Some of the auctioneers may provide the information but most do not. I know two fellows that get paid a small amount for each sale/item they gather the information for.

He gets numbers form one here locally for sure. He was even here in Michigan and taped a show at one of his sales.

I only have local channels, no cable or dish TV. I do have internet, Netflix and amazon. Is it Machinery Pete on internet TV.
