Massey 1010 wont start

I have a MF1010 that i just split and put back together and was starting and stopping. Doing so just perfectly, then all of a sudden it just gives me intermittent clicks(about every 5-10 turns of the key)

I have had the starter tested, checked the ignition switch(good voltage at the starter) and the clutch switch gives me an open circuit when depressed, and battery is good. I have gone over every inch of of the wiring, nothing is burt and i have replaced all connections on the starter itself.

Scratching my head pretty hard on this one now, anyone got any ideas?

The trick to diagnosing electrical problems is to test under load.

Get a test light, or volt meter (I like a test light 'cause it's quick, easy and obvious).

Have an assistant turn the switch until it clicks, then hold it while you check for voltage. Start checking between the starter case and the terminal where the solenoid connects. If there is power there, and the starter is not turning, there is a problem with the starter.

If no power there, work your way back toward the battery, look for where the power drops.

But be very careful! The engine could decide to crank any time!

If it has a solenoid try jumping across the 2 big terminals and see if the starter spins up. If it does the solenoid is bad. If it doesn't then good chance you have a bad battery cable which can go bad and look good

Your clutch switch should be closed when the pedal is depressed to complete the circuit. And open when released.Mark
