My 4020 lp still won't run. I have put all
new ignition parts on, it has good spark.
Took the converter off and had it rebuilt
it's a model h. Tank it's full and strainer
is working and letting fuel into converter.
I checked air cleaner and tube for any
blockages and changed oil in cleaner. Took
carb off to clean and noticed it's missing
the nozzle valve. Does it need this to run
right. It will fire and spitter then die. Im
at my end ive checked everything i can think
of and still cant get it to run. Any help
would be great. Thanks

Have you checked compression? And if it been sitting awhile try removing all the spark plugs and take a squirt can and give it about 10 squirts of motor oil in each cylinder and see if that will make it start if the rings are dry won't hurt anything

I have not checked compression. The tractor ran really good up till about a month ago and I haven't got it going again. It just seems odd it ran good then just quit.

You have probably checked, but is the distributor turning good and smooth and the shaft doesn't wobble, also it would be a little work , try unhooking the front hyd pump coupling to make sure there's nothing with the pump causing extra drag

The distributor all looks good. The tractor turns over good with no drag from the hydraulics. It seems to be fuel related I think. I wish I had a parts tractor to put a different carb on it. I think it was a weed patch tractor at one time since it has some new bolts and parts on it. It's just so strange how it's ran good the last year I've had it and out of the blue it quit.

Probably wasting your time, but I have a Farmall 460 lp. It ran, than ran poorly and ran and wouldn't run and finally didn't run at all. I FINALLY found the rubber hose supplying lp from the regulator to the carburetor had a leak. Well, honestly it was originally a leak and then eventually was a great big, long split. Since I replaced that old, probably original hose, I've had no problems with the fuel supply. kelly

I'm kind of behind on exactly what happened to it when it quit. I have started tractors without a carburetor by just tying a hose off a 5 gallon bottle in the intake and just started cranking it over and cracking the valve on the bottle on until it would start ,they're pretty simple and a guy can miss the common things where are you located

Another thing to try would be to turn the lp valves off at the tank and let it set couple hr or even over night then start cranking it over before you turn the valve on and while cranking crack the vapor valve on that would eliminate flooding

I had something similar happen with my miller big 40 welder. It is not LP, but all of a sudden it started running very poorly, spitting and sputtering. I had fire, fuel, and air. The problem was the coil, I did have spark at the plugs, but it was not enough. I changed the coil and it roared back to life like nothing ever happened.

If it is like an LP powered forklift they wont start most of the time till the choke is pushed in . They have to be choked while turning but the air mixture won't be right till the choke is pushed in. They are most of the time hard to flood because LP evaporates fast after opening the choke.

Sell it!

I had one of those suckers; my first JD. Boy was I a happy camper......so I thought. Had been looking and looking for a 6 cyl JD diesel and none to be had. Paid $5k for it back in the 1990s + $250 to get it hauled home.. Didn't know what those little (weep) holes were on the side of the block that were weeping......... Another $1k and me doing the work to get that "in frame" completed.

Never ran right. Bought a new regulator, carb kits and all. never a regular pattern for starting. Cold wasn't too bad to get it started, course refueling in cold weather was a pain....no vapor pressure. Hot and hot weather, forget it. Was in love with the nurse tank. Had to gas up half way through the days work, and that's loads of fun with vapor pressures being sky high. Open station was miserable from engine heat.
Yucko.

Had the same problem. Found out the choke was stuck closed. Opened it. Bam! Cranked right up. This was after I had exhausted every avenue trying to crank it for weeks.

I had a 4010 lp. Wouldn't start cold or hot. Just somewhere in the middle. Finally put a gasoline carb on it. To get it to start. Just drained the lp tank took the plug at top to fill and vent it.used liquid line for gas line. Also wrapped 3/8 refrigeration copper around intake just above carb. Hooked to waterpump and head.

I was strapped for funds at the time and the gas carb certainly was on the shopping list. Problem was that the www wasn't available then and none to be had locally. I was ready to go for it if I could have found one I could have slipped into the budget.

Just fixed the tractor tonight. I got to thinking and checked the weights in the distributor. It was dirty and sticky. Cleaned them up and put a bit of grease and she is running good again. Thanks for every ones advice. I figured I'd let everyone know what it was.
