one of the neighbors have a 3020 gas, they cussed it for not running right and fowling plugs,as from reading on here most aren't happy with the 10-20 series gas deere.they put a propane intake manifold and a diesel exhaust manifold on it,what a difference, its like a totally new tractor, ive drove it a few hrs,and watched/listened to them use it,it runs so smooth, idles perfect, never fouls a plug, always starts.a really good tractor now I must say.just passing a good idea along.....

Hey, if eliminating intake manifold heating works for you and you are in a warm area GOOD FOR YOU!

Probably wouldn't be a good idea up north where I'm at, but WHAT THE HEY, you beat the factory engineers at their own game!

That being said, many of us with gasser 3020's or 4020's get along just fine with the factory manifold setup and a clean and properly functioning Zenith carb.

Bob: What is there like 2 or 3 of us left that like the gassers ?
LOL.

I'm in Ohio and ours sure likes to have the manifold set for weather conditions to run right.

Bob , myself and IIRC there is another poster on here too that find them usefull.

But FOR SURE NOT TIMS !!!! LOL.

Tim for a Christmas present I'm going to get you a 2840 and stick a 4020 gas engine in it ! You can have a "blast" with it if the others will send you some tannerite. LOL.

I wonder how often the distributors are rebuilt when those gas tractors don't run right? With age and as the bushings wear the spark gets more erratic, the advance springs get weak or the advance sticks. We don't think anything about rebuilding injector pumps on diesel engines, but the distributors on gas engines are often neglected. If it still turns and there is a spark it must still be good, right?

The first shot would be at Santa Claus,,and the second one would be the Trigger shot for the Tannerite...I had 4 4020 gas engines here at one time, one had been O/H'ed a year before I took it out,,it was as good as they could be,,I didn't want to scrap it with the other 3,, so I put it in the Farm and Dairy classified (a paper from Northern Ohio), thinking some one winter feeding could use it,,I got one call,,,and he wanted to know what I did with the rest of the tractor...

A friend of mine bought a clean 3020 Gas Power shift a few years ago,,(against my advice, and he was putting a strain on our friendship),,It ran good one day, bad the next,, I went into the distributor and put new bushings in it cleaned the fly weights up, didn't help..Was at the auto parts store and saw a set of assorted weights for the same model Delco distributor,,color coded for different advancements,,I spent all afternoon trying different sets till I "thought" I had helped it,,next day it was running like crapp again...My hat is off to any one that can make them run even "Half" as good as a Diesel..on a daily basis,,and I don't care how cold it gets..

I've seen some of the projects Tim has done. I bet if he put his mind to it and had a steady supply of liquid encouragement he'd do something with those parts JD never considered. Like make a reliable tracor. Might end up being his favorite tractor and he'll stop messing around with those JD 60's.

I just finished round baling hay with my 3020 gas. Ran like a champ when loaded, but when it idles it sputters and coughs some, and even in road gear full throttle on the way home it didn't sound that good. But it sure churned out those bales.

As you can see from my "handle", I'm a red guy. I also have a 3020 John Deere lp. That is the nicest tractor! It is easy to get on and off, starts easy, steers easy, pulls well, and is handy (if you've ever looked down the aircraft carrier length hood of a Farmall 460 or 560,you know what I mean about "handy". I'm surprised to hear of so many unhappy with the gas version, as the lp version seems to me to be slickern snot on a brass doorknob. kelly
