I'm thinking you are talking about a wico distributor. That would be correct on the early ones. the later 50's had a delco distributor and they were much better. Gordy in Mn

As [b:654c4848f0]Gordy in Mn[/b:654c4848f0] mentioned below, there were two different distributors installed on Model 50 tractors.

Take a look at the table below.

Note the Wico distributor was installed from 1952 until early 1954.

Take a look at the Wico diagram below.

The Delco distributor was installed from early 1954 through 1956.

Take a look at the Delco diagram below.

Which one of these distributors in on your tractor?

This is one method of setting the point gap on a Delco-Remy distributor.

Remove the cover with springs from the flywheel cover.

Turn flywheel counter-clockwise until cam opens points to widest position.

a168108.jpg" width="650"

Loosen the lock screw.

Adjust contact point opening to .022-inch by turning the eccentric screw.

Hope this helps.

James, a question, how did you know he was talking about a John Deere 50? Nothing in his post that I can see to tell that. I when I saw it I thought of Cockshutt 50 or Massey Ferguson 50. So before he put the serial number on for your first post how did you know it was a Deere and not one of the others?
