A while back I had posted about building my own 22 target rifles because I couldn?t afford to go out and just buy one. I would usually go out and find the junkiest bolt action and just keep the bolt and receiver and sell the other parts to pay for what I kept. I put on Green Mountain barrels (bought as blanks because they were the cheapest I could find). I would then put on a cheap Chinese 24 power scope. I had mentioned that I was going to keep one and sell the other but asked my wife if she wanted to try target shooting before I got rid of it. She liked it (probably more for the social gathering thing) and has been going to 100 yd egg shoots with me over the last 2 years. She was having an issue of her shooting going off during a match. Recently we went to the range to practice with some friends, one of whom was testing out an H&R M12 he just got. During that time my wife was complaining that her shots were drifting off and I finally confirmed the scope was losing zero as the day warmed it up (haven?t had that issue with the exact same scope on my rifle). After my friend zeroed his M12 I tried it and then she tried it. She out shot both of us at 50 yds and then again at 100 yds (Four 3 shot groups each). I decided to go into hock and bought a Weaver ?T? series 36x fixed fine reticule for her rifle and since then has been consistently out shooting me. Today she entered her first 50 yd bench rest competition at our local club. Out of 9 very experienced shooters she was high score on the first 25 targets with a perfect 250 and 18x (18 bullseys). Of the next 25 she got another perfect 250 with 9x and was tied for first place with one other who also had a total of 500 and 27x. It was decided by who got the most Xs first so she came in runner up in her first match. How am I going to live with her now?
