1984 JCB 1400B Won't move forward or reverse

The fuse would blow and the transmission would not go into reverse or forward. I replaced the fuse and it stopped blowing, however the machine still will not go into reverse or forward. The bell that signals reverse also does not work. Prior to the fuse blowing out, it had always worked fine. Does anyone know if there is another relay fuse other than the fuse on the right dash area fuse box? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same backhoe, on mine it would not go in reverse, turned out to be the switch for forward and reverse had gone bad. It was about a $300.00 part. My guess is the switch has shorted and or
burned out. I had it checked by a friend who had an oscilloscope, which showed the problem, I checked with an Ohm meter that appeared to show it was good. Hope this helps.

Make sure the feed wire in fusebox has full voltage-not just light a test light. had something like this once that had damaged the wiring-and blew the fuse

I agree with starting at the forward/reverse switch and the connection at the fusebox. Does yours have the circuit board at the fuse box? I have a Terex backhoe that shorted out at the circuit board and wouldn't shift. Terex wanted $1500 for the board so I rewired it with relays and fuses for less than $50. You might do a Google search and find a wiring diagram that would help narrow down your search.
