Question on putting lien on a drivers license

Some people mentioned it on here a while back. Was wondering how it worked? Far as I know in my state you cannot do it but the state can for unpaid fines, child support etc. They just cancel all state issued permits then take income tax, bank accounts too. Years ago a guy told me about it. He did it for an uninsured accident time went on and the guy paid guess he could not renew his license. Just looking for a little more insight on this one.

Each state probably has it's own laws.

If back taxes are owed to the State of Iowa, the State of Iowa can prevent a property owner from renewing any vehicle registrations, selling any titled vehicles or selling any titled real estate until the back taxes are paid. I don't know about preventing someone from renewing a driver's license. That could be counter productive because that would restrict a persons ability to work and repay the back taxes. You do see more and more reports of arrests for driving with revoked licenses, unregistered vehicles and uninsured vehicles. It costs the taxpayers money to keep people in jail too.

In Texas for unpaid taxes and child support they won't let you get a drivers license or license for any of your vehicles. Uninsured accident I don't think they get involved with that.

Texas will also garnish pay checks for child support up to a certain percentage.

They will also withhold auto registration renewal, driver license renewal, hunting and fishing license, any number of professional licenses for unpaid tickets, some counties for red light camera tickets, many other unpaid fees and taxes.

In Illinois if you are in arrears for taxes or municipal bills such as water & sewer permit or municipal/state fees they get your income tax returns federal or state until paid in full.

There are several states that will put a lien against your license if your sighted in an uninsured accident. I know Ohio does this but I am not sure about Iowa.

Funny they have been after me for 15 years for non-payment of unemployment tax. It was a period I had no employees but they are still sending me a bill. I've tried and tried to straighten it out but nobody there will pay any attention.
