Apple maps in rural areas?

I was working in my field yesterday. About as rural as rural gets here in northern Michigan. I was near the road - and see this weird looking van come by, real slow with one of the cameras pointed at me. Apple Map van. I had no idea there was such a thing. I know our place is not on Google maps street-view, although they came close (1/4 mile from us).

So my kid and I chased it down and took our own videos of them - and not with an Apple product either. Used my Motorola Android.

John, They are in rural upstate NY also. There was one exactly like that one that went by my house about 10 days ago. They went up by the house on the town road and about 20min later they came back down by.
Sure are weird looking vans. I wonder who makes the vans for them.

Loren, I passed one on I 88 the other day. Did you get your radiator back? I think John knows Bob from Cobleskill Radiator as he lives in Worcester too.

I saw the Google map car here in Arlantic city about six months ago. Couldn't turn around fast enogh to snap a photo of it. It was a small car with 2 doors and white in color. Had enough cameras on it for a moon mission.

Being an Android user I wasn't aware that Apple was doing street view photographing - now I do. I'm always surprised how many rural roads are on Google steet view. There is a swath about 50 miles wide through Kansas from Oklahoma to Nebraska going through Wichita and Salina (which includes our home area) where almost every road, including minimum-maintenance "dry weather only" dirt roads, are photographed. Outside of this band many roads are pictured but it isn't quite as complete. According to Wikipedia over 5 million miles of roads worldwide are pictured.

Bob did good by my standards. He was able to salvage all the mtg. hdw. and the tanks, and put in a new core. It looks like a new one. I picked it up last Thursday. He charged $450.
In case you haven't heard, the Roseboom show is on this year. 19-20th Aug. Hope to see you there.
