Ford 3600 Steering problems

I have a ford 3600 that I bought a few months ago that has a turf harvester on the side for our turf/sod business. there was oil coming out the top of the steering column so I went online and found that it may be seals in the steering shaft that have gone. The steering was working perfectly fine when apart from the oil leak. so I stripped down the steering assembly and changed the seals for new ones. I was very careful to take pictures and draw diagrams where all the parts went but for some reason I now have no power steering at all. I tried to diagnose the problem by taking the pipes that go onto the steering rams either side off and started the machine and turned the steering wheel, no oil was coming out of any of the ports.

I am really stuck and don't know what to do.
I am at the point that I may have to call my newholland dealer and get a mechaninc out.:(
Any suggestions on how to fix the problem or help with diagnosing would be muchly appreciated.

If you haven't searched this site - and separately searched the site's archives, I suggest you do so. Look for 3000, 3600, and some 2000
(3-cyl) posts, and focus on the Ford forum below, and especially look for posts by user Ultradog. He's da man when it comes to these
steering columns. I've never been into one of these myself (or I'd offer more help) but my day is coming, and I've got Ultra's posts all
saved up.

I have been looking on the ford forum and scrolled through the countless discussions about steering problems in Fords! The only think that I have taken from the reading is to flush the whole system out and try and get the air out too. Hopefully Ultradog will comment with the exact way to fix the problem !!!

I also am looking for any help with how tight the nut should be on the shaft as I do not have a manual. Also should the steering shaft be screwed all the way in/down when tightening the nut.

NO!!!! If the nut is screwed all the way down, the valve can not move or select ports. As others have said.. this topic is discussed over and over in the ford forums...

An manual will tell you how to tighten, then back of a bit, and then "stake" the nut so it cant move..

Good luck on your rebuild.

That info is in the archives. I thought I did my first exactly right, but I had better steering one way than the other--a person tends to try to overtighten that nut. ultradog explains it well.
