I actually saw a truck fall off a hoist this spring. No one was hurt and truck not damaged.

Could be the body had to be lifted in order to do some engine work. Last spring I was in an auto repair shop that had a chassis sitting there in the hoist with the body lifted off for engine work. The engine was a diesel if I remember right.

Is that a Toyota frame replacement gone bad. I watched them take the cab and pickup bed off of a tundra all in one lift.

The Ford diesels, about 1999 vintage and newer, best to lift the cab to do most serious engine work.

That's a Chevy or GMC, maybe even a Caddy. Tahoe I think. I didn't know anybody ever fixed them.

I had that happen once, years ago. A service station was doing an oil change on my pickup and managed to drop it off the hoist. The damage to the pickup wasn't terminal, and the station's insurance covered it. The fellow who owned the station had dated my sister in high school, so there wasn't too much dissention over it.

Seen similar happen many times in forty years, frames change constantly between all the different brands/models of trucks and when you run out of hoist adapters you're left with 4x4s and 2x4s. That combined with wear on the hoists when you start to lower one.

Worked at a Ford dealership years ago. Every Saturday, without fail, we had to power-wash the shop floor. One week we ALMOST lost a vehicle on the hoist. After closer inspection, the hoist had rusted from the inside-out. Turn out that the hoist was getting wet every week and that was causing the rust. We had a welder come in to reinforce the thing. We never power-washed the floor in that area after that.

Ok, I'm not seeing it. How did the frame get 3/4 of the way on its back and how did the body separate from it. And does separate like that often in collisions with those model vehicles?

I absoultly detest 2 post hoists. Converted my tire shop to 4 post many years ago and never had it so good. Put bridge jacks on them. Would Never go back.
