2000 ford 3pt (long)

I use my 3 cyl diesel 2000 only for brush hogging (mowing) with my Woods R105, for at least 20 yrs and it seems to me that my sector lever for the 3point is operating the set height at a very high point in the quadrant.....just a little down from the little tang sticking out. Now when things get tough I can slip it up and around the tang all the way back and it raises the mower up nicely- pretty high.
But when I lower it back to the mowing height it seems sluggish going down. And the lever is only maybe an inch down the quadrant from the little tang, and I have the little stop with the wingnut. Now I'm old (73), but I think I remember the lever being much lower in years past. I even installed another set of 3pt hitch mounting pins lower on the mower so as to lower the 3pt arms and therefore the sector lever in the quadrant. What I'm wondering is...is it time to take off the top under the seat for service and who in New England is good at all of the adjustments that might be needed. And I appreciate any and all advice
PS: selector lever is always up in position control not draft
