Drone Crop View

During the heat of the afternoon while I was waiting for the hay to take on a little moisture I sent the drone up for a look at the yard and surroundings. It was a good day for flying with light wind and clear visibility. Sloughs are turning green. Not sure if it is algae or some type of weed. The canola crop in the lower part of the photo is typical of the area this year. Germination was not the greatest.

Neat pic,

Are your hill tops sandy and the lower ground better darker soil?

When I was a kid, dad share cropped a field that was the same way. They sandy hill was nicked named Indian Hill. You could find arrow heads there. My dad said the sandy hills were actually beaches where the Indians lived and the lower ground was under water. If lower ground was under water at sometime, we might have to melt more ice caps to cover it with water again.

Nice picture Rusty. The last time you posted a flying view of your ranch, if I remember correctly, there was snow on the ground. Good luck with your granola crop and happy farming.

Not sand on the hill tops here. It is more clay as years of tillage have gradually worked the blacker soil downslope to the low spots. They always show up white in an aerial view.
Bruce, I think that old Red River Special was last used to thresh oats in the mid 1950s so it has been a while.
The "lake" , slough off in the distance is not mine but on a neighbour's field. I think it cuts the field in half
