Farmall 200 clutch reassembly

Son is reassembling my 200 after a major engine overhaul. New clutch plate is not centered on the hub. One side protrudes probably half an inch further than other. Which way does it install? Any torque specs for flywheel to crank? any torque specs for clutch assembly? Shop manual is conspicuously short on clutch information.

You need a spline aligner Ray. Something that's fit snug in the pilot bearing and also in the clutch center. On the Olivers,a deep well impact socket usually fits snug in both. I have used a socket that fit the pilot bearing and wrapped it with electrical tape until the rest fit the clutch alright on other breeds.

Get it straight with that, then tighten the bolts in the pressure plate.

You're asking, which side of the disc goes toward the flywheel?

The flat side goes toward the flywheel, the protruding side toward the pressure plate.

As for bolt torque, you can look that up online. Just need to know the bolt size and grade. There are charts for the torque.

But more important than torque is that the bolts are drawn down equally, a little at a time in a cross pattern. You want to compress the PP springs equally so as not to warp the plate or housing.

And you really need an alignment tool. Without it, you are just guessing, and that will cause the restabbing process to be very difficult. Trying to force an input shaft into a misaligned clutch disc is very likely to damage the disc, cause chattering or failure to release.

Can you access the clutch after you put the tractor halves back together? If so, leave the pressure plate assembly loose and use the transmission input shaft as your alignment tool. Then tighten the pressure plate bolts to the flywheel. That's what I did on my IH 666.

Damper springs go towards the pressure plate . spec's for flywheel bolts are in the manual . Today i am to lazy to put my boots on and walk out to the truck to look it up. and you would be hard pressed to work thu the HOLE on a 200 to put the pressure plate on after it is put together , on them you use a clutch alignment tool to center up the disc to pilot bearing and wiggle and jiggle it together , NEVER EVER USE THE bolt to PULL IT TOGETHER , start off with two guide dowel and two bolt and use your FINGERS to take up the slack on the bolts as you put the two halfs back together .

Put the pressure plate on and tighten the bolts finger tight. Use the stick end of calipers and measure the clutch plate to the edge of the flywheel in three places. When they are all equal tighten up the bolts. This centers the clutch plate better than those plastic input shafts. I am the inventer of this method.
