Sad but odd.

Week ago neighbor was found dead on side of road and tractor and sprayer was found driving around in circles in near by field. Today I found out what happened. He was driving down road to go do some spraying and he fell out the back window of tractor. It was a JD tractor with sound guard cab. How the hell can something like that happen. Don't them rear windows only open about 6"? Even if he had removed the rear window how does that happen? Just driving down the road. Tractor had not been tipped over. It was perfect when they caught up to it in field. Can anyone come up with some kind of senerio where you might fall out the back window of a tractor? He was 74 yrs. old if that helps.

It would be job enough for me to intentionally crawl out the back window of the cab (up over the seat back) much less fall out.

i know I couldn't hardly crawl out I wonder if he got out then got ran over ? I know I've gotten off the tractor a lot with it moving to do things

Was the window removed? Could he have been tying to reach something outside the tractor and fell out?

One would think he had a stroke or heart attack however that does not get him out of the tractor.

Any way he could have stopped the tractor improperly and after he was out it took off on it's own?

Not ready to go, but I'd rather go working with a tractor than sitting in a waiting room or at an IRS audit.

Did he stop, shut it off for some reason and start it from the ground, getting run over in the process? (If safety switches weren't I'm place). I'm having a hard time figuring how you would have fell out a back cab window on any cab unless you were going up a very steep hill or something. We have IH tractors, and the rear windows open wide open, but it'd be a real pain to have to crawl out one let alone fall out. That's the handiest way to get the seat out of the cab by yourself, and it's still not very handy, even with that big back window open.

Whoever made the conclusion is wrong because I agree with the others. I'm not that big of a guy but it would take me considerable effort to crawl out the back window much less fall out accidently.

I own a JD 6330. It is 2014 build, so still close to new. The back window pivots at the top and will open wide. Could fall out of it, but would have to climb over the back of the seat for that to happen.

If the sprayer is like mine the control valve is on the sprayer. To reach it you have to reach way behind you. I have had to stand and lean over the seat to reach it once in awhile. That's why I use an open tractor for spraying. He had the window removed so he could reach out to turn the sprayer on would be my guess. Possibly he unhooked the brackets that hold the window at the bottom so it would open further. Either way I would bet he was leaning out the back to turn sprayer on or off while tractor was moving.

He could have had the pins out so he could reach the valve/pressure control,,and had to reach a bit too far...

"He was driving down road to go do some spraying and he fell out the back window"

Somebody has something wrong here. In road gear and it went off the road and was still going in circles? I can't see how even String Bean himself could have fell out the back window of a Sound Guard cab either.

I'll bet he stopped, leaned out and turned the valve, as he started to twist around to get back in the seat, but was still half way out the window, he nudged the gear selector ahead into gear. The tractor took off, he tumbled out the window.

all of us could wear ourselves out about the true possible cause ,,. but i would bet one thing for sure ,,. if all of us could view the scene and the equipment ,TOGETHER , we could figure it out,,....there are so many ways we could get ourselves kilt out here without being creative whatsoever ./// some hydrostat tractors when hot and barely idling could make us quik jumpers think we have it out of gear , and we are off the tractor before we realize that sundavichis still in gear!,. happened to a pal of mine that went thru a haytedder the hard way and lived to tell about it , i think it was a ford /n-holland .////..with no rear window it is highly;possible the fella was reaching back for a lever on the spray rig , bumpt a forward lever on the tractor,,///. easy to do on a 4020 p/shift ,. i WILL NOT GO OFF THE RIGHT SIDE ON MINE ,.//. and the left side on a 430 case uprite handclutch lever has got me in trouble before wearing shorts , , left the 430 in 4th low raking hay and yankt the hand clutch , jumpt off to switch the rake out of gear, durn lever went up my shorts and there i was about to lose my pants running alongside the tractor trying to kill the motor and get the thing stopt before we run over the bank onto the county road .stark neked,, i was a county commissioner then ,, can you imagine those headlines ,. farmer found dead and left his shorts on the hand clutch lever..
