Exercise just doesn't seem to work

I am constantly trying to lose weight. I weigh about 35 lbs more than I should. When I have a day where I push hard and have to take pain reliever three times in order to keep going and then sleep it seems I always gain weight. When I come in for dinner I have an ale. When I have an ale I have another ale. When I have a second ale I have a dish of ice cream. When I have a dish of ice cream, I usually get a second. So all those calories that I burned are quickly replaced.

The easiest way to lose weight is to mostly cut out the empty calories you get from flour, sugar, and starches like potatoes. Eat as much meat, non-starchy vegetables and fruit as you want. Just skip the carbs and sweetened drinks.

Exercise will improve your physical condition, but it won't help you lose weight. Occasional hard exercise can injure you though, better to do lighter and more often.

That seems to be true after a while. I work out on the elliptical every day, have been for a year and a half. I lost 40 pounds in the first five months or so,but I've been stuck at the exact same weight for a year now. Can't drop another ounce. I feel great, but no sense even thinking about loosing anymore weight.

Ice cream diet. What ya need
to do is walk to your nearest
ice cream stand and eat as
much as you can. Day 2 walk to
second nearest ice cream stand
fill up again. Day 3 third
nearest. Continue each day
for 30 days. Guaranteed to
lose weight. Only side
effects are lowered appetite
for ice cream and you will be
really far from home..

I lost 30# and had Apple pie and ice cream
for late night snack. No secret, eat many
small snacks 3-400 calories, around 1800
calories a day. Fitbit says I walk average
13,000 steps a day working.

I found eating low calorie TV dinners a nice
way to eat controlled portions around 3-400
calories. Watch calories, pounds will come
off. Stay active too.

BILs diet was switching to Miller 64.

Dr. told my sister that weight loss is 85%
what you eat and 15% exercise.

I rode a bicycle across Georgia on a BRAG
ride and gain a few pounds.

My son started on a high protein diet and lost about 50 pounds pretty quickly. I tried it but couldn't really do it exactly with my lifestyle. I just try as much as possible to cut out carbohydrates. I lost 40 lbs and close to 8" from my waistline in three months. I think the biggest thing that helped is cutting out soft drinks and regular bread. A 20oz bottle of soda has about 33 carbs and I could easily drink a half dozen in a day in summer.

I should loose about 20 lbs. and I start out every day with good intentions but I have like zero will power so by days end I fall off the wagon. Oh well, there's always tomorrow!

You're right.
One pound of fat has 4086 calories.
Average man burns about 2500 calories a day.
If you were to exercise the same and eat 500 fewer calories a day, it will take 8 days to lose one pound.
Fat went on fast. Slow process to get rid of it, have patients grasshopper.

My wife teaches Diabetes prevention. It takes a strong will to teach people to look at fat grams of the food they eat. Her learners have that same issue. Even when
they know what they need to do, they let their hunger drive the intake. Exercise does burn additional calories above just maintaining 98.6 degrees. But not as much as
the extra you allow your self. The tractor is running rich, adjust the main jet. Have conviction. drink a pint of water near or during the intake part of the day, it
assists in becoming filled with no calories. Diet drinks (if you use them) are fooling your body into being actually prepared for calories it doesn't get from the
drink, making you more hungry. Best of luck changing. Jim

I exercise in my recliner, nap, wake up,nap, wake up.

After my stroke I found a girl to help me with a diet. Told me I could eat what I wanted. Just smaller portions. Also walk when you can instead of driving a half a block. I have lost forty pounds so far. Hasn't been easy. Worst part was her and my doctor said no beer.

Since New Years Day I have eaten nothing except grilled fish, chicken, and low fat content hamburgers or steaks. Zero carbs. I have lost nearly 100 pounds since then. My waist has gone from 50 to 40 and I feel great.

Anything with carbs - potatoes, breads, pastas, many vegetables, and certainly ales and ice cream are not things you can consume and lose weight, unless you want to take a year to get it done. Even at that you cannot have those things ore than a couple of times a week else you are just frustrating yourself.

If you are really serious about it see your doctor and get some help with appetite. The doctor can legally prescribe it to you for 5 months out of every 6. You do need to get off it for a couple of months here and there else it stops working.

Hello showcrop,

There are many variants that need to be met to reduce/lose weight. Our body is like a four cycle engine.
Intake; compression; power; exhaust.
Intake; digestion; extract good nutrients; exhaust.
The last cycle is not always mentioned, can't lose weigh without it happening as often as the other
cycles,😇

Guido.

My daughter is in Italy. She has lost twenty pounds with out any real attempt to lose weight. We have sugar in everything and over there they don't. Sugar is a real problem.
It was decided that fat in food is bad for us. But the food did not taste as good, so they add sugar to it. Fat in food is better than the sugar they use to make food taste better. Your body wants fat and when it does not get enough, it will try to make its own.
Increase your level of activity. Cut the TV and reduce your computer time.

Don't eat anything white.

If you eat 2500 calories a day at age 25, you can maintain your weight running 5 miles a week.

At 45, you need to run 25+ miles a week to maintain your weight eating the same 2500 calories. It's your metabolism slowing as you get older.

I can actually lose a half pound a day no problem, it is just those Ale and Ice cream days. My wife cooks healthy meals, very little red meat very little white bread, very low on processed foods all around. Very little sugar, never any sweetened drinks. It is just those ale and ice cream days, and I just need to hold them to say two a week. If you can't reward yourself when you have a good day getting a lot done, is it worth it?
