Monday holiday

I'm baling hay today,so not a holiday for me,but wasn't there just one year or so back in the mid 70s that they tried the Monday holiday thing for the 4th of July? I remember I was baling hay and a neighbor who had just moved up from Detroit stopped in the field, had a boat in the back of his pickup and one of his city friends with him. He asked me why I was working on a holiday? I told him "It's July 5th,that's not a holiday.". He said it was an official holiday. I told him the 5th of July wasn't a holiday for me.

Anybody else remember them doing that for just a year or two?

When the 4th is on a sat or Sun the gov and many businesses celeberate it on Friday or Monday.

Right got to have that other day off work (unless you're a truck driver: then everybody elses day off is our travel day.)

I remember it. Can't remember what years it was. Problem with farming is it doesn't recognize holidays, no matter when they fall.

When I worked in a union environment, if the actual Holiday fell on Sunday, we got Monday off as the holiday.

What is even worse...... you just get done spray painting something. You are cleaning the gun out, and your old man has to come over and touch a perfect paint job to see if it is DRY YET.

akes it a custom job, complete with fingerprints.

They tried it with the 4th of July and Veteran's Day both for a few years didn't they? There was so much push back that they changed those two days back to the day they were supposed to be on. Decoration Day didn't fare so well. That stayed Memorial Day Monday.

t did happen, a 'few' years ago: "In 1779, July 4 fell on a Sunday. The holiday was celebrated on Monday, July 5"

I guess it's a holiday? I took all week off to get some stuff done this week all my get it out of my hair. And my wife off my back...

The farm's not big enough to pay all the bills, so I have to punch a time clock. The company I work for did away with all holidays. No extra pay, or time off. It's mandatory to work the day before, the day of, and the day after. It's a firing offense not to.

When I worked for the city, if the 4th fell on the weekend, Friday or Monday were the designated holiday and we got double time for those days as well as the actual day. During the week it was always the actual day only. So occasionally the 3rd and the 5th were a paid holiday.
