Bird on bird predation

I was cutting hay this morning and hit a couple of turkeys on their nests. A bald eagle came down and started pecking at what was left of one of them. It might be 4th of July weekend for us,but for him,it was more like Thanksgiving.

Ya,the first time I ever saw one around here,it landed in the pasture and started eating afterbirth.

Yep, see them eating more dead stuff around here than anything live. Fine by me. Lots of eagles, and lots of dead stuff for them to eat. I doubt they'll ever become a legal game bird, I bet they don't taste very good lol.

I wish one of them would have cleaned up that dead deer that I came up on in the same field. That one had been there for a while, but it was still whole.

Didn't you ever hear that joke about the owls up in northwest. Spotted. A person who was native was asked what they taste like. Chicken? He said no they tast like Eagle. Something like that.

Have seen eagles dine on stale venison. Donno what is with your dead deer, but they must be pretty bad! Come to think of it, scavengers must have stainless steel stomachs. What they eat would kill us.

Funny that the symbol of the country was eating what Ben Franklin wanted to be the symbol of the country. Eagles 2,turkeys 0.

I had one out front of my place a couple days ago feasting on road kill.

Yes, they are fancy buzzards.

Two years ago in November, there was a dead deer in our field, between the eagles, ravens and coyotes there was only a spinal column and skull left after 48 hours.

A buddy of mine had a eagle dive bonb two Sandhills in his hay field but vered off at the last second while the sandhills were cackling and jumping up down with evasive action.
