Tillers in my corn.

I planted 10 pounds of Bodacious sweet corn and about 1/2 of them have sprouted tillers. Any of y'all ever experience this high of ratio of tiller growth?

I have half an acre of Bodacious up around 8" and it looks normal to me. What the heck is a "tiller?"

Surprised that you don't know what tillers are small shoots near the base of the stalk my corn has them to don't think I'll worry about it. Randy

I think teddy52food is correct plus it may be a variety thing as well. Field corn tillers when the population is lower than optimal for the field conditions. Your sweet corn may be reacting to being pampered by you in combination with weather it really likes.

Brace roots are what they are commonly called and are natural for all corn. Population has nothing to do with them.

We have them this year also. Started pulling some on the first planted and finally gave up and just letting them go. Noticed that some of the suckers have ears setting on. Just hoping for the best.

first time I heard that suckers were called tillers. Good conditions will make the second ear mature Field corn will produce two ears under good conditions
