Hydraulic fluid question

Yeah Im sure its a easy question but when checking hydraulic fluid (trans/hydra lift/rear end) levels on a 1964 Ford 2000 gas tractor do you check them when tractor is off/cold or while its running?

I almost bet if you look at the dip stick it will have right on it a level with the cylinder extended and a mark for them down. The older ones say with cylinder extended which means the lift is up. My 841S says cylinder extended right on the dip stick and yes NOT running

Ok just to be clear, to check hydraulic lift I need to crank/warm up tractor, put lift it up position, turn tractor off, then check fluid level?

Ok folks sorry for the ignorance on the matter but just clarifying. I've always been told to lower all hydraulics when shutting down tractor as over time when tractor is off pressure will slowly release and whatever is up will come down? However based on previous statements/posts (and re-reading my manual stating '...be sure all hydraulic cylinders are fully extended') I'm suppose to raise lift, turn tractor off and then check lift fluid correct?

(quoted from post at 08:55:34 06/24/17) Yes if the 3 point is down then yes you start it up lift the 3 point and then check the oil with the engine NOT running
Thanks folks evidently I was "confused" on the terminology>
