Weed identification

Can anyone tell me what this weed is called?
My yard and pasture have a heavy infestation and this is the first year.
I have sprayed with 24D Amine @ 2oz, to gal. Sprayed many gallons three times and it had little effect. except killing some other vegetation around it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can't help you on the weed identification though I have seen it. A little adjuvant added to the 2-4D can help it get through the shiny leaves. A little too much adjuvant turns the 2-4D into a vicious killer that kills the grass too. Found that out last summer.

Exactly--Creeping Charlie? I've heard that term applied to several different vegetative growths. One that comes to mind is henbit.

I have "ground ivy/Henbit" and it has jagged leaf edges like "gill-over-the-ground".
Notice this has nearly smooth edges.

Jiles,

See if it blooms in purple or white... it almost looks like Viola leaves to me.

But going to go search Google images for weed with heart shaped leaf to see what else I find.

Look up images of Viola labradorica... says it is invasive as all get out, and hard to get rid of.

We clean that out of lawns with triclopyr. 24D won't do much.
Triclopyr will toast it quick. Creepy charlie, ground ivy, etc it's good for

Wild Violet/Viola papilionacea, Trimec will get it in a couple sprays 10 days apart, or the best is Triclopyr as mentioned in the other post

To the best of my knowledge, Weed-B-Gone contains Triclopyr
Might not be enough concentration in the bottle but it is what I was using before buying 24D.

Weed B gone is different depending on your location but its pretty diluted. Not a fan. I use the new Vastlan or Garlon 3A, both can be obtained at a farm supplier, neither are restricted use. added to your 24D at label recommendations will smoke it.

I know there is a lot to be considered when mixing any herbicide or pesticide.
I just usually experiment after reading recommendations and document results.
I know I have used Roundup for years @ two oz. to one gal. and that's what I used with 24D.
Any suggestions?

lots of variables, too many to give you a real answer. I mix Roundup at 4% solution or 5oz per gallon, but Roundup kills everything. Trying to kill weeds and leave the grass you need to work in oz of chemical per area, like 5oz per 1000 sq ft. Take your sprayer with water and spray 1000 sq ft at a steady pace. Take how much water it took to spay 1000 sq ft and then you can add the correct amount of chemical per 1000sq/ft to that same amount of water. Most turf chemicals will have a per 1000 rate on the label. If not divide per acre rates by 43.560 to get per 1000 rate. I don't know if your 24D is 4 or 6 pounds per gallon but that said 2oz sounds a bit low.

always heard it called purple violet here, I also have a good crop of it in my yard, ex used to pick the flowers and make jelly.

Jiles,
Not sure what it called. I allow it to grow around rosebush.
I like some weeds in flower beds that look better than other
ones.

I don't like using chemicals. I have a well and my concern is
anything I put on the ground might end up in my water.

So to get rig of that weed in yard, I remove the wheels on my
riding mower deck and cut the grass as close to the ground as
possible.

Do that a few times where you have weeds and let us know if
that works for you. The grass will recover a close cut better
than weeds.

We bought something called Triplet sf, seems to be working well, but we always mix 2,4-d 3 oz to the gallon, with a little
Dawn dish soap. The Triplet is to be mixed 4 oz to the gallon and no soap.

That looks like what I have growing in my yard. The soil won't grow weeds well, let along grass. This stuff is the only reliable green growth in my entire backyard. Doesn't
grow tall but spreads like multiflora rose. When my house was built they took all the top soil and left useless clay. No lawn service will touch my place without trucking in good
soil. I'm money ahead with this stuff.

That.... is Round Leaf Mallow. It's an absolute sob to get rid of. I had a mess of it around here about 10 years ago that expanded out from
around our feed tanks.
I found that Killex... I think it was... kind of touched it. 2-4D/MCPA did nothing. Round-up does nothing. IIRC, it was the trimec family
that it was supposed to be susceptible to. What actually killed it was a spray of plain old #2 diesel fuel... so that worked for me in non
crop areas. Granted that's not something you'd want to use on a lawn...... but in my position I just wanted rid of it. I still have some
around in a hay field but it's not something I worry too much about anymore. Getting something else going in it's place seems to keep it
down. I also noticed that it seemed to be cyclical, and worse in dry years.
