Cut some firewood

Even tho its bad practice to cut firewood in the summer, my good friend Doug and I cut up that downed tree and another small dead one that was in need of it today. Even got to use my tractor to haul the big pieces.

I wouldn't worry about cutting the firewood in the summer. The guy who sells my dad firewood up in Maine cuts and delivers in the summer. Dad usually gets his around July or so, and waits until late October to mid November to saw and split it. By time he starts burning it in mid December, it is nice and dry. We have been doing that way since I was a kid. And there is no wood quality difference as the tree itself by cutting it in the summer. You just have to let it dry and season a bit before burning.

I cut a pickup load this morning from a large Beech tree that blew down. Biggest issue I have in cutting in the summer is how much an old chubby guy sweats!

geez jon, kruser was supposed to pick me up and we were gonna come up and cut that rascal for ya. he was a no show. kinda thinkin mebbe hes lergic to work???????

Looks great! The trailer fender blends in with your driveway and makes at first glance look like the truck is in mid air because you can't see the back wheel

Nothing, saps up and makes it alittle harder to transport, summer is when storms happen, I get all my free wood this time of
year.

The only real downsides to cutting wood in the summer is weather related- heat, bugs, snakes, flies, can't see as well. There isn't enough difference between dry winter cut wood and summer cut to make any difference at all. Getting it dry is the key.

The only propper time to cut firewood is in
2 feet of snow. I think in some states there
are laws about that, but I could be wrong
about that.

Had a chainsaw once, that worked just fine in the winter/colder months. But use that thing in June July or August and if you refilled the fuel tank the gas would look like it was boiling. Maybe it was. But would have to let that thing cool down or would vapor lock. Ofcourse it stands to reason that an air cooled engine will not be as hot in 20 degree temps as itwill be in 90 degree temps. Its not a rule, but I don't cut much in the summer time. jme gobble

I boiled the gas in a Homelite 925 years ago when I cut up a friend's cherry tree that went down. Since then, I try to keep the chain saw work really light in the summer or hit it at daybreak when it's coolest.

Well, it's certainly more comfortable then. But you do what you have to do to get the wood in.

If there are actually states with laws dictating when you can cut firewood...that's SCARY.
