Never hurts to start them young. Needed about 50 small bales of brome for the neighbor's show lambs, so the he came over and his two youngsters just had to help. Made a quick run through a waterway. They were pretty energetic for the first couple of bales then tuckered out pretty quickly after.

I ended up the brome season with about 400 small squares and around 75 large rounds. Still have 10 acres of a field planted to grass I need to bale into rounds for the horses as well. Three of the big guys can go through a round bale in just over a week, in the winter.

I can only imagine the connection you have with those horses when driving them. Show us, you, your rig and the horses all rigged up and "working'. gobble btw how do the horses and the dog get along, dog is acting jealous of you petting the horses. lol

It's funny actually. I have two Jack Russells that just love to try to chase the big horses. Sometimes if the horses are feeling good they will start to run and buck around a little. Of course the horses are just playing, but the two little Jacks think they are teaching them a lesson they won't soon forget..lol! If the horses are not in a playing mood, then the two little Jacks are no more than a pesky fly to them.

The picture in the Ranger, the Jacks know they are kind of trapped, and are trying to ignore the horses in hopes they will go away..lol!

A couple of working pictures..sort of

My mule will smash any dog that gets into the pasture but loves cats. The border collie has learned where he can and cant go real fast. Monday night dad and I were hanging a gate and the mule was acting stupid and later I went and looked and she had killed a rather large snake.

I can see why the boys got tired if they were stacking a couple of layers at a time rather than from the back to the front of the wagon.

They actually went from the back to the front, but then we decided to make one more pass so they had to go up on top. It did work them harder for sure. Bob

Holy Cow...that is a long one! Mules don't tolerate anything they think shouldn't be there, that's for sure. Good looking mule, by the way - Bob

Dang, but you have some gorgeous animals!! I hate it when someone has horses, but never does a thing with them - no riding, no working...not even spending any time with them. There's so much more to it than "just" providing feed and water.

I have noticed over the years that most people are afraid of the draft horses just because of there size, been my experanice that the draft horses are quite gentle.
