Baler won't feed dry hay fast enough.

This is a 430W IHC. Baler. Won't feed
alfalfa over 2 mph. At 3 hay will start
building in front of pickup. Clutch is not
slipping. I think teeth are not pulling
hay up because they are not aggressive
enough. And they disappear to soon. Can't
see how to adjust. Teeth were new last
year. Thanks for any help. VIC.

I don't know about IH but a Deere has an option with spring hold downs to keep the light hay tight on the pick up fingers...maybe an adjustment on your hold down fingers ??

Vic, I can feel your pain. I have never used a 430, but I have used a later model, maybe a 440. It was very frustrating, especially in second cut hay. It would just roll it ahead, not wanting to lift it. I believe that it is because of the diameter of the pick-up reel, coupled with the distance between tines. Modern balers have pick-up tines much closer together. I suggest that you rake your windrows bigger.

I had similar problem with my 435 IH took the pickup drum off and had to rebuild the track were the cams run along with about everything else in side it.

Thanks for the help. I will try letting the bars down. They are as high as they will go. If don't work will look at the cam on pickup. Afraid that is worn out. Thanks again. Vic Simpson
