Need new tires

I have this 11 yr old trailer that needs new tires. The ones on it are 800X14.5 12 ply. They are the second set and have been on there fore 3 years. They are SAMSONS, made in China. Origonal set lasted 8 years. I stopped at the local tire shop today and he had the same tire. I am not going to buy them. Is there any brand made in the USA that makes this size. I think I'm gonna try to find 14 ply too. Thought about changing the hubs to 8 lugs to, but that's expensive to. Trailer has Dexter axles on it. Do they make a kit to change it over to 8 hole wheels. If so where can I find it. Gotta put new brake shoes on it too.Here's a picture of the wheels and what it hauled today. I think he said it was a 1937 International. The yellow one is an Austin that came in last week.

Dave, 14.5 is commonly used on trailer house axles. If that is what your axles came off of,I remember there was a company Pioneer Wheel and Rim (still in business, google it). They had rims in 15" or 16" that would mount on your hubs so tires are easier to find. They may still supply them. I called them on a 28" rim for my 8-N the other day but found one closer.
 
If those are trailer house axles and tires they are what I run too. My tire guy told me that they are made for carrying a lot of weight not made for a lot of miles. He said I would be lucky to get 5000 miles.
 
Carlisle makes that size tire. My Internet at work is horrible tonight so I gave up trying to verify if they were USA made. I bought carlisle tires for my skidsteer because they were made here.
 
I would need to know more about your axles to tell exactly what you need, but either 6 or 8 bolt hubs will go on there in most cases. If they are standard trailer axles with removable brake backing plates it is likely that either 6 or 8 bolt hubs will go right on as long as you get the correct bearings. If they are trailer house axles with the welded on backing plates then you will need to pull a hub and measure the spindle. If your backers are boot on the easiest way to do brakes is to buy the entire backer and just boot it on. I would suggest redoing the suspension at the same time as the plastic bushings are likely worn out too.

That IH is in nice shape, I like that. I had a 34 at one time, should've kept it. I bought tires online for my trailer, don't remember which brand, but looking at reviews from other buyers had a big part in deciding which to buy. Some tires had only bad reviews.
 
I have same setup on a trailer I got. Only gets maybe 500 mi a year and had 10? or 12? rated tires on it when I got it. Looked in to changing to 8 lug wheels. Talked with Dexter people in '05 and there was no direct conversion available. Problem seems to be getting a hub that fits the bearing/spindle. Maybe now someone has made it. The discussion concluded that it will be cheaper to replace the whole axle assy, get all new parts and move on. IIRC I was given a price of $300. hub to hub per axle. If you need brakes too, that should tip the $$ in favor of all new. I am leaning towards the torsion, non spring type of axle. But then, any day I may be done with everything and it won't matter.... But that IH sure looks neat. Where did it come from? Looks like it was not local in NY.
 
Dave they make trailer house tires that are primarly designed for 1 trip. The tire engineers I got to know told me they were made at the end of the week with everything left over from the weeks runs. True Story. Then they make trailer tires that size, according to them it is a totally different tire, better casing, etc. of the hundreds I sold and installed I do believe them. I did convert dozens of those axles to 6 or 8 bolt hubs and used standard heavy trailer rims. You don't have to worry about getting those rims mounted straight. Good luck finding American made bias tires. Last I knew Multi Mile still had them, but it has been a while.
