Right gear oil? Tractor tranny and rear end.

Well just finished restoration on a Z I have and been looking into some "Gear Lubes"
Had someone tell me that the GL-5 type is bad to use? So my question is-''' Is there any Gl-1 out there still or is the napa brand gear lube ok to use? Which is the right brand for these old irons? Or does really matter.

I don't know what kind of tractor a "Z" is, so have no idea what you need. Some tractors do indeed require GL1 gear-oil and it is available. Tractor Supply keeps in in stock. GL5 is too slippery for some transmission synchronizer-clutches and brakes and is also not recommended when there is any yellow metal involved (e.g. brass or copper).

My Tractor is a Minneapolis moline "Z"
I found a Costal Gl-1 online 5 gallon bucket id say it might be ok to use? I know napa has that sta-lube stuff its in the Gl-4 range.

I was a MM mechanic back in their day. We put Gl 5 in everything. Now I use 85x140 s yn in most everything. In my pulling tractors D17 Allis and a 435 JD. You can tell the difference pushing them by hand.
